A winter Faerie

I finished this little one just in time to catch the last of the daylight.

We woke up yesterday morning to snow! I was starting to wonder if we were going to get any at all this year. It's always so magical to see everything covered in a blanket of white, it makes me nostalgic for Ontario winters. Dawa's carpool phoned us to say they couldn't make it out of the driveway so we curled up in bed together and read for nearly two hours, munching on salt water toffee and crackers.

Good reads

We're reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe right now and absolutely loving it! I wish we had an endless supply of brilliant children's books on hand. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

I think that missing out on some of our reading time is going to be one of the hardest things we'll have to adjust to when the little one comes. Every night we curl up in bed together, dim the lights and read for an hour, it's such a special time.

In the meantime here's a list of some of our favorite reads from this past year:

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Brothers Lionheart
Ronia, the Robber's Daughter
Little House in the Big Woods
Farmer Boy
Finn Family Moomintroll
Comet in Moominland
Tales From Moominvalley (All of the Moomin books but especially these three.)
Mio, My Son
The Neverending Story
Koshka's Tales: Stories from Russia
The Wonderful Adventures of Nils

Still waiting for my camera to arrive :( so no photos for now.

I have the day off! Dawa just left for school and I'm about to sit down and get all cozy with my sewing basket, start a new faerie, and watch Midnight in Paris. I'm so looking forward to a mellow day.

Oh and that middle of the night design epiphany I had last week turned out to be... not so great. After sitting down with my sketch book for a few hours (something I haven't done in almost two years!), followed by several more hours spent scanning and editing, I realized two things:

1- I miss drawing and need to do more of it.

2- My idea had no actual relevance to what I make, and sometimes epiphanies that come in the wee hours of the morning should be thought out a little more thoroughly when one is really awake - before diving in.

So I'm trying to create something a little more relevant, a bit more like this maybe:

A night of creative insomnia

I woke up in the middle of the night to pee, as usual these days thanks to baby. Then, when I got back to bed I realised I was famished and wouldn't be able to sleep without food, proceeded to the kitchen for a midnight (or rather 3am) snack of apples, and upon returning to bed found that I was wide awake. Normally this drives me crazy, but what started out as a very unfortunate situation ended up turning into a night of creative brilliance. I designed new business cards, finished the little story cards that I've been stuck on for ages, designed a whole new market set up with an amazing prop that I am very excited to start building, and thought up several new dolls.

I think this was partially brought on by some lovely crafting purchases I made before bed. I am so excited for this beautiful 1920's silk rosette trim from Vintage Tidbit to arrive!

As well as some other beautiful little treasures from Create Lovely and Mama Judes.

I'm so excited, I just ordered my first SLR, a Canon Rebel T2i. This is not big news for most folks, but after dealing with a point and shoot for years, having to rely on it through all of my travels and missing out on the most amazing photo opportunities, I finally get the pleasure of owning a good camera. I have wanted to get into travel photography for years, now I have eight months to find my way around with it before we set out for Tibet, Nepal, India, and Bali with the little ones.
